Miley Cyrus is learning the "right way" to find a partner after getting bad dating advice from her mother Tish Cyrus.

Miley appeared with Tish and sisters Brandi and Noah for a new cover story with The Cut where she shared one of the questionable tips her mom gave her in the past regarding romantic relationships, per People.

The Something Beautiful singer had an on-again, off-again romance with Liam Hemsworth before they pair got married in 2018. They divorced a year later. After their split, as well as a nearly year-long relationship with Cody Simpson, she has since moved on with Maxx Morando, whom she has been dating since 2021.

"Mom's always wanted me to stay with the wrong guy 'cause they're hot," she said, before Tish defended her reasoning, stating, "Well, that was great advice because after so many years, you're kind of over it and you're like... in a relationship. At least you get to look at somebody that's frigging hot!"

However, Miley disagreed, noting that her current boyfriend is more than just good on the eyes.

"No, I ended up with a person who means a lot to me and treats me really well and respects me," she said, adding, "I had to learn that the hard way because my mommy taught me the wrong way and then I had to learn the right way by myself."

She continued, "I had to find someone who treats me with respect and then Mom never really put that on the top three of her must-haves. Mom was like, 'They need to be tall.'"

When Brandi noted that their mom's opinions on finding the right partner have "evolved" over the years, Miley quipped that it's "because she found someone that is hot and respects her," adding that is "always the goal." Tish married Prison Break actor Dominic Purcell in 2023 one year after her divorce from Billy Ray Cyrus.

When it comes to her daughter's relationship with Morando, Tish has nothing but support. In a June episode of her and Brandi's podcast Sorry We're Cyrus, she praised her daughters for being "much more cautious in love than I was" and said they were in "super healthy, amazing relationships."
