Meghan Markle & Prince Harry’s Black Lab’s Name Is Finally Revealed

Shortly after Prince Harry and Meghan Markle tied the knot, the newlyweds adopted a black Labrador rescue puppy. Until now, however, the name of their furry friend has remained a mystery. Back in 2018, reports came out suggesting the dog's name was Oz, but Harry and Meghan shut those rumors down. During an official royal appearance, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex joked that “people keep getting her name wrong.”

Two years and international move later, the name of Harry and Meghan's dog has finally been revealed. In the new biography about the royal couple, titled Finding Freedom, royal reporters Omid Scobie and Carolyn Durand reveal the Black labrador's name is Pula.

The name has a special meaning for the Sussexes, as well. According to People, Pula is the official currency of Botswana, It also means “rain” in Setswana, which is very scarce in Botswana so it’s considered a blessing. When Harry and Meghan first started dating, Harry took Meghan to Botswana so they could get to know each other out of the spotlight. One year later, they returned for Meghan's 36th birthday. Scobie and Durand speculate this is when the couple really got engaged instead of November 2017 as it was first reported. Harry even sourced the diamond for Meghan's engagement ring from Botswana.

Before meeting Prince Harry, Meghan adopted a rescue beagle named Guy. The beagle remains with the Sussex family to this day, as well. According to an insider, both Guy and Pula hit it off with Harry and Meghan's son Archie. Archie "is best friends with his dogs," the source told People. "They make him laugh and are gentle with him."
