Monica Lewinsky Praises JAY-Z For Admitting That He Cheated On '4:44'

In an opinion piece for Variety, former White House intern turned motivational speaker and social activist Monica Lewinsky reacted to JAY-Z's 4:44 project where he spoke about his infidelity in his marriage with Beyoncé

On the album title track, as well as a couple others on the LP, JAY bared his heart and sole when he rapped about the wrongs he did to Bey. Even though he described her as his "soulmate," JAY admitted that he wasn't good at loving her and continuously hurt her.

The MC also told iHeartRadio the meaning behind the song. "'4:44' is a song that I wrote, and it's the crux of the album, just right in the middle of the album," Hov said. "And I woke up, literally, at 4:44 in the morning, 4:44am, to write this song. So it became the title of the album and everything. It's the title track because it's such a powerful song, and I just believe one of the best songs I've ever written."

In "Footnotes for 4:44," Hov added about his marriage: “This is my real life. I just ran into this place and we built this big, beautiful mansion of a relationship that wasn’t totally built on the 100 percent truth and it starts cracking. Things start happening that the public can see. Then we had to get to a point of ‘O.K., tear this down and let’s start from the beginning’ . . . It’s the hardest thing I’ve ever done.”

One unexpected person who listened to 4:44 was Lewinsky, who's infamously known for having an affair with Former President Bill Clinton during her internship at the White House when she was 22 years old. At the time, Clinton was 49 years old. "Jay-Z could have ignored it all. But, instead, he chose a path of candor that will -- like Brad’s [Pitt] and Prince Harry’s -- move the conversation forward and help others," Lewinsky wrote for Variety.

She added:  "As we wrestle with gender roles and relationships between the sexes -- and see issues of sexism running rampant from the tech world to politics -- it’s heartening to see a crack in the implicit contract among men, their emotions, and society at large."
